Our Therapists
Ryan and Maddy Hesslau are licensed mental health professionals whose shared passion is walking alongside individuals as they make sense of their stories and move toward greater wholeness. Both completed their Master’s degrees in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through CACREP-accredited Colorado Christian University, fulfilling the educational and clinical requirements for licensure in the state of Illinois.

Maddy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Before entering the counseling profession, she worked as a social worker and life coach in her hometown of Pensacola, Florida, and spent several years doing part-time mission work. In addition to her clinical work, Maddy is a certified Pure Barre instructor and writes a personal blog called Courageously Known. She works with adolescent girls and women navigating anxiety, depression, and trauma. Maddy believes that beauty and healing emerge when individuals have a compassionate space to explore their family of origin, confront limiting beliefs, and make sense of their lived experiences. Her approach is grounded in empathy, presence, and a deep honor for each client’s story.
Ryan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship from Trinity Christian College and brings a diverse professional background in adolescent mental health, leadership, and innovation within the mental health space. Prior to transitioning fully into clinical practice, he served in leadership roles within a nonprofit youth development organization in the south suburbs of Chicago, worked as an Entrepreneur in Residence at Trinity Christian College, and was involved in the development of a mental health startup company. He also spent several years as a Youth Ministry Director in his hometown. Ryan primarily works with adolescent boys and men addressing anxiety, depression, addiction and unwanted sexual behaviors, and trauma. He also supports individuals navigating marital challenges, life transitions, stress management, career changes, and burnout. His integrative approach fosters clarity, resilience, and inner strength within a supportive and grace-filled therapeutic environment.

Together, Ryan and Maddy are committed to creating a counseling space marked by compassion, empathy, and kindness—where stories are honored, pain is met with care, and clients are supported as they grow into who they are becoming. They also believe meaningful counseling requires doing their own work in their own stories, knowing they cannot guide others further than they are willing to go themselves.
